Gymtyme All Stars take another World Title

From Griffin Myers blog at Inside Cheerleading.
This year the competition was harder than ever. Not only were there more American teams in the division, but the international teams had stepped up their game and proved themselves to be major competitors. This year was also a little different because they were only taking three teams from each country to finals. Our biggest competition was Cheer Athletics out of Dallas, TX. This was the first year they have had a team in this division but they looked like old pros. After a very big bobble during the dismount of one side of our pyramid we found ourselves advancing into finals in second place, right behind whom else? Cheer Athletics. A sense of déjà vu occurred to myself and the rest of my team, for we had just been in this same situation coming from pre-lims into finals in Daytona.

In the business to CHEER

Ran across this article in the Deccan Herald about cheerleading in the US and elsewhere.
On the face of it, cheerleading by scantily-clad women in the United States appears to be a format designed to raise excitement levels for audiences, largely male, who cling to the ritual of watching Monday night televised football. But a closer look reveals an industry that encompasses sports, dance, gymnastics, competition, training, and both genders.

Cheerleading is defined as a sport that uses organised routines made from elements of some tumbling, dance, jumps and stunts to direct the event’s spectators to cheer on sports teams at games and matches and/or compete at cheerleading competitions. There are an estimated 1.5 million participants in All Star cheerleading, with millions more participating in high school, college and Little League sports. In fact, Newsweek magazine has called cheerleading ‘the most quintessential of American sports’.

At the University of Delaware, the male cheerleaders are proud of their athletic prowess. Usually over six feet tall and more than 200 pounds, they train daily and compete regularly in national competitions. Many members of the Blue Hens squad claim there is no sport more challenging.
