Two squads vie for national cheerleading title

The Riverside Bulldogs and the Delran Bears cheerleading squads are headed to Disney World next month.

The two Burlington County cheerleading teams plan to compete in the Pop Warner National Championships held at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., from Dec. 8 to 12.

The teams earned spots to compete for the national title after placing second in their divisions in the Eastern Regional competition held at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton last weekend. The Delran squad cheers in the pee wee division of the Pop Warner football league and the Riverside team cheers in the midget division.

Waimea wins 4 in a row

With its superior tumbling skills, the Waimea High School cheerleading squad won its fourth consecutive Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship yesterday at host Kaua‘i High School.

The Menehune, under the coaching of Roxanne Cardejon, posted a whopping 293.5 score, trumping its fellow KIF counterparts by more than 73 points. Kaua‘i’s Lady Red Raiders finished in second with a score of 220 and Kapa‘a rounded out the league at 218.5.

Wilson cheerleaders defend district title

On a day when all five Shenandoah District cheerleading competition squads brought their ‘A’ game, Wilson Memorial was able to defend its championship Saturday night at Riverheads High School.

It was quite a night for the Hobson sisters.

Literally seconds after Green Hornet senior April Hobson was named district cheerleader of the year, her sister Jennifer Hobson was named district coach of the year.

Moore Cheerleading Squad Earns Honor At Competition

From an article in the Tyler Morning Telegraph:

The Moore Middle School Competition team won the highest possible honor at the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader contest Sunday, Oct. 12 at Texas Stadium.

The cheerleaders earned the high point award for the grand championship, beating out 22 other teams which included high school squads as well as all star teams. The cheerleaders also placed first in the middle school division, as well as the high point award above all school teams.

Newcastle’s East Coast All Stars Are Grand Champions

East Coast All Stars is a competitive cheerleading program in New South Wales, Australia.  They took home just about every award possible at a recent competition at the NSW State Championships in Penrith on Sunday, September 14.

The teams took home first or second place in several categories as well as first and second for Grand Champions.

1st - Teen Cheer 11-18 years & under - Level 2

Dance, cheerleading now a sanctioned sport in South Dakota

According to an article in the Meade County Times-Tribune there has been a marked increase in the number of competitive cheerleading programs local schools have started this year.

Competitive cheer and dance teams in the state are coming into their second year as a sport sanctioned by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA), and participation has nearly doubled, said Jo Auch, assistant executive director at SDHSAA. There are 18 competitive dance teams, up from seven last year, and 27 competitive cheer teams, up from 16 last year, Auch said.

All coaches for the competitive programs have to participate in safety certification training through AACCA. The program has held trainings throughout the state all summer, Auch said, to train coaches on proper safety techniques and how to teach the athletes the correct progressions in moves to avoid injury.

Demon cheerleaders win meet at Jones County High

According to an article in The Sun News the Warner Robins High School cheerleading program made a change about four years ago.  The change created two cheer squads.  One, a competition squad which includes males.  A second squad for cheering at games.  The WRHS competition squad won several awards at the Jones County-High School cheerleading competition recently.

Warner Robins won 1st in the Varsity Co-ed competition division and the Junior Varsity division. The Varsity team also won best overall, meaning their score was the highest from all the divisions competing that day, and the sportsmanship award.

SuperStar Stingrays are first place champions

From an article in the Midland Free Press:

The SuperStar Stingrays recently competed in Louisville, Kentucky at the National Cheerleaders Association’s Kentucky State Fair Six Flags Cheer and Dance competition.

They were first place champions in the level five international open co-ed division and were awarded the NCA best use of stunts award.

Their performance had the stadium crowd cheering for them. They also received rave reviews from some of Kentucky’s most nationally televised cheer programs.

Lincoln High School’s Cheer & Stunt Team win trophy at summer camp

Lincoln High School’s Cheer & Stunt Team attended a Universal Cheer Association cheer camp held the first week of August, where they one a trophy and four members were named UCA All-Stars.

The Cheer & Stunt Team earned a first-place trophy for its home routine, first place for Camp Xtreme Routine, and second place for Camp Cheer.

Four members of the Cheer & Stunt Team were named All-Stars: Becca Bradley, Taylor Davis, Toni Maurer and Natalie Singer. To be chosen as an All-Star, cheerleaders must perform the Xtreme Routine, Camp Cheer and a jump of their choice in groups of three before the entire camp.

First Ever Minnesota All-State Performance Co-Ed Cheerleading Squad Announced

27 Cheerleaders Selected From 10 Twin Cities High Schools To Participate In 2008/2009 All-State Cheerleading Performance Team

Minneapolis, MN - August 7, 2008: Northern Elite All Stars, Minnesota’s fastest growing cheerleading company, is pleased to announce the roster for the first ever All-State Cheerleading Performance Team. Comprised of selected cheerleaders from ten different Minnesota high schools, the Performance Team is the first of its kind recognizing the best cheerleaders in the State. The performance team is designed to showcase the most complex stunting and tumbling routines allowable under State cheerleading guidelines.

The team will perform exhibitions at several local competitions throughout the 2008/2009 cheerleading season. Scheduled exhibitions include performances at Lakeville North High School (Nov. 1, 2008), Minnetonka High School (Nov. 8, 2008), Eastview High School (Nov. 16, 2008), Armstrong High School (TBD), and the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association (MCCA) State Competition in St. Paul, MN (Jan. 31, 2009)

Athletes were specifically hand picked for the inaugural team because of their talent, hard work, and dedication to the sport of cheerleading. Additional selection criteria include leadership, discipline, work ethic, personality, sportsmanship, and ability to be coached. High School and All Star coaches were consulted in team selection, and the athletes will wear cheer uniforms from their respective high schools or all star programs during the Performance Team exhibitions.
