Book examines rough and tumble world of cheerleading

Just found about a new book coming out called Cheer!. The book will be available in stores and online beginning March 11th. I will try to get a copy to review and post that review when I have finished reading it.

The book follows the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, the Jaguars of Southern University in Baton Rouge and the Tigers of the University of Memphis.

College cheerleading now ranks as an “extreme” sport, no matter what the NCAA might say, argues Kate Torgovnick, a former Jane contributor who now writes for The New York Times.

She tracks three teams on the way to the annual National Cheerleaders Association finals held each spring at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Read on for more details on the book…

Update: I received an email from the writer, Kate Torgovnick. She will be sending me a copy of her book to review. She will also start blogging about cheer beginning March 1. From that email:

Also, starting March 1, I will commence blogging about cheerleading at www.crucialminutiae.com. It’ll be All Cheer! All The Time
