But one of the counsels to the defendants, Ugorji Nnazimuzo, has raised the alarm that what happened at Otuocha was the height of injustice.
He said said they were already putting up a petition to the National Judicial Council (NJC) against the Presiding Magistrate against what he described as an aberration.
Nnazimuzo said the prosecutor tricked them the arraignment was at Oba but quickly ran to Otuocha without notice.
Before they could get to the venue, he said the trial was already over.
According to him: “There was no fair hearing in the matter. The Magistrate got it wrong knowing the sensitive nature of the case and we are going to petition NJC on this issue.
“What happened was an aberration and total disgrace to judiciary. I have never seen this kind of thing all my years as a lawyer. A lot of things went wrong and the Magistrate did not even make an inquiry. We can’t take it.”
