34 Terrorists Neutralized in Sabon Gari Attack, 6 Soldiers Killed

The Defence Headquarters has reported that joint air and ground operations successfully neutralized over 34 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists following a large-scale attack on the Sabon Gari community in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.


Key Details of the Attack

  • The terrorists, riding on motorcycles and gun trucks, attempted to ambush troops stationed in the area to retaliate for the recent elimination of their commanders.
  • A reinforcement team, which included elements of the Civilian Joint Task Force, vigilantes, and hybrid forces, joined the fight and decisively overpowered the insurgents.

Casualties and Recoveries

  1. Terrorist Losses:
    • 34 terrorists killed during the firefight.
    • Recovery of 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of ammunition.
  2. Troop Losses:
    • Sadly, 6 soldiers were killed in action.
    • The vigilante commander sustained injuries due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) encountered during the reinforcement.

Operational Support

The air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted precision airstrikes on the fleeing terrorists, further decimating their numbers and disrupting their retreat.


Official Statement

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to eradicating terrorism in Nigeria. While mourning the loss of personnel, he emphasized that procedures to notify the next of kin are underway.

The Defence Headquarters called for media discretion to respect the families of the fallen soldiers.
