Actors Guild of Nigeria Debunks Reports of Emeka Rollas’ Arrest in Umuahia

By DAYO ADESULU

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has dismissed reports claiming that its National President, Emeka Rollas, was arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State.

In a statement issued by the AGN’s Presidential Spokesman, Cornel Udofia, the guild labelled the report as malicious and unfounded, clarifying that Rollas was, in fact, the one who filed a complaint at the police station.

Udofia described the incident as a fabrication by certain individuals with ulterior motives, emphasising that Rollas has been committed to resolving issues within the guild.

Background to the Incident

According to the statement, the conflict stems from a faction within the Abia State Chapter of AGN. Since 2024, a group allegedly led by David Amalaha conducted an unauthorised election, leading to internal disputes.

In response, the national body has been managing the chapter under interim leadership. Most recently, Emmanuel Ehumadu (Labista) was appointed as Interim Chairman, with his first official meeting held on January 9, 2025.

What Happened?

Rollas attended the chapter meeting during his visit to Abia State following a personal loss. During the meeting, a member of the audience reportedly interrupted, using abusive language and issuing threats against the national body.

Rollas subsequently alerted law enforcement, leading to police intervention. Contrary to the viral report, Rollas was neither arrested nor detained but instead filed an official report of threat to life at the Zone 9 Police Command in Umuahia.

Guild’s Position

The AGN reiterated its commitment to upholding unity within its chapters and urged the public to disregard baseless reports.
