The Governor also disclosed that the kidnappers of the two teachers and six female students of Engravers College, Kakau Daji, a remote village in Gwagwada District, Chikun local area of Kaduna State have made some demands for ransom but declined to make the amount demanded public.
He made the disclosures while speaking with State House correspondents after Jumu’ah prayers at the State House mosque, said concerted efforts were being made by the government with the security agencies to ensure that the students are released from captivity soon.
El-Rufai, said intelligence has revealed that the kidnappers are now working with some Boko Haram sect to carry out their nefarious activities, saying the schools in the state were the primary targets of the bandits.
He told journalists that the state government has made adequate arrangements to alleviate security in state schools, explaining that the kidnappers of the school female students succeeded because the school was in a remote place.
He described the incident as unfortunate, saying the kidnappers had made contact with the parents of the victims.
A former Minister of Federal Capital Territory said: “First, I must say it is most unfortunate and tragic. For us in Kaduna for this kidnap of children and teachers to happen. The report I got is that six students of a private secondary school were kidnapped along with two teachers.
“However, from the moment of the kidnap, the security agencies, Department of State Securty , Police, the Nigerian Airforce, and the Army have been on the matter.
I am confident that not only are we going to secure the release of the students and their teachers, but we are going to get the kidnappers by the grace of God.
“It is always a moment of sadness when young people that are trying to get an education become victims of these criminals. But kidnapping has become widespread that for many people, it is not news, he said.
“For us in Kaduna, this is one of the biggest tragedies and we are doing everything to manage the situation to get the children and their teachers safely and pursue these kidnappers with everything that we’ve got.
I want to thank the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Airforce and the DSS, and Police for being very vigilant on this.“Their response was quick but unfortunately, we are having to deal with the situation.
But, I am confident that it will be resolved. Every three hours i get update and the last update I got was that they are in touch and they are discussing to resolving the matter, he added.
