Xenophobic attack is not over yet in South Africa as armed protesters are insisting that foreigners must leave their country.
The armed protesters are on the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa, demanding the immediate departure of foreigners.
Sowetan Live, a South African newspaper, said that the protesters carried deadly weapons such knobkerries. Sowetan said the protesters are waiting to be addressed by Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a notable politician and Zulu tribe leader.
The protest is coming one week after attacks on foreigners sparked reactions across the continent.
Nigeria, Rwanda and Malawi pulled out of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Cape Town. Zambia cancelled an international friendly match with South Africa over the violence against foreigners.
All the aforementioned severed diplomatic ties seem not to matter to the people of South Africa.
You will recall that in reprisal attacks in Nigeria, South Africa-owned businesses were targeted at last week.
An MTN office was burnt down in Ibadan, Oyo state, while another office of the telecoms giant was vandalised in Abuja.
MTN had to shut down its offices nationwide while it issued a statement to condemn xenophobia.
Again, all these resiprocatory measures seem not to move the people os South Africa as they maintained that foreigners must leave.
