In-Flight Laptop Theft: Passenger Arrested

A passenger on an airplane has been detained after being accused of stealing another passenger’s laptop.
On July 26, 2023, Ogeneochuko David, a passenger, was detained on board aircraft Q1300 of Ibom Air between Lagos and Abuja.
It was claimed that he took the laptop from a fellow traveler’s luggage in the overhead compartment.
According to reports, the laptop’s owner feared David was moving around the plane and chose to see where his laptop was stored.
He alerted the crew members after realizing the object was gone at that point.
The laptop was located with Mr. David after a quick search that caused a delay of around 30 minutes.

Aniekan Essienette, GM of Marketing and Communications at Ibom Air, who verified the arrest, stated that the passenger was promptly offloaded and turned over to Aviation Security (AVSEC) at the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN) for further investigation.
She said that the police afterward received the suspect and began an inquiry.
“The suspect is a member of a sizable syndicate that specializes in stealing from aircraft, the police have since confirmed,” she claimed.
“The laptop’s owner willingly left the aircraft to cooperate with the investigation and made a commitment to see the matter through to its logical conclusion.
Ibom Air has zero tolerance for this kind of illegal behavior on board our aircraft and will punish any violators to the fullest extent of the law, in accordance with our business policy.
Recall that on May 31, 2023, at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, Ikeja, a man named Kingsley Chinsunum was accused of stealing N100,000 from a wallet stored inside a bag in the overhead compartment.
He is now undergoing a trial in the Ikeja Magisterial District after being charged in court.
In order to avoid any thefts and guarantee a safer journey for everyone on board, the airline advised customers to immediately report any suspicious behavior they see to the crew members throughout their flights.
