Court Restrains Benue From Privatising State’s Transport Company

A Benue State high court sitting in Makurdi has restrained the Benue State government from privatising the state-owned transport company known as “Benue Links.”

The court on Wednesday gave the ruling in an application for interim orders filed by the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUCTPRE) and three others pending the determination of the motion on notice.

The respondents are Governor Samuel Ortom and the attorney general of the state and three others.

Our correspondent reports that the state government had in August put up 25 of its public assets classified as moribund for outright sale or concessions including Benue Links.

Justice Theresa Igoche granted the order after hearing the application moved by counsel to the plaintiffs, Imoter Gbim-Gbande, and fixed the hearing for December 3.
