The Laila Dogonyaro Islamic Centre Abuja (LDIC) weekend in Abuja graduated its first set of students of Quranic recitation,at its maiden Walimatul Qur’an.
The ceremony had the four graduants recite different chapters of the Holy Quran.
The centre is named after one of the first female activist in a northern Nigeria who championed participation of women in politics in Nigeria, Lailah Dogonyaro.
Speaking to Daily Trust at the event, one of her daughters, Hajiya Binta Dogonyaro, said the centre which kicked off on October 21, 2017, was born out of the need to portray Islam in a positive light.
The coordinator of the centre, Maryam Baba Mohammad ,said it took the graduants eight months to complete the recitation of the Quran, adding that they had begun memorisation.
