Abuja — The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly cloning the agency’s official website to defraud unsuspecting individuals through a fraudulent recruitment scheme.
The suspect, 32-year-old Augustus, hails from Akpan Eno Street, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, and claims to be a content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo.
Details of the Scheme
- Augustus reportedly created a counterfeit DSS website to advertise a fake recruitment drive.
- The scheme was designed to extort money from job seekers under the pretense of processing job applications.
- The DSS quickly issued a disclaimer, warning the public that the recruitment announcement was a scam and urging individuals to disregard it.
Arrest and Prosecution
DSS operatives tracked Augustus to his residence and apprehended him on Thursday.
A source within the DSS confirmed:
“He will soon be arraigned in court.”
