Governor Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially launched the construction of the **44.8km Amah-Eke–Oghe-Iwolo-Olo-Umulokpa Road**, which will traverse the **Udi**, **Ezeagu**, and **Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas (LGAs)**. The project also includes a spur from **Akama Oghe to Aguobuowa**, aimed at enhancing the economic corridors of the state.

Symbolism of the Flag-off Ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony, held in **Eke, Udi LGA**, was described by Governor Mbah as not just a commencement of road construction but a significant step towards building a robust economy. He stated, “What you see is asphalt and well-paved road that we will have here, but what I see when I do this flag-off or when I go for commissioning is a $30 billion economy. I am also seeing the eradication of poverty and enhanced human welfare and capital development.”

The governor highlighted the transformative power of good roads, emphasizing that they facilitate economic activities and improve the quality of life for residents.

Commitment to Timely Completion

Governor Mbah assured the public of the timely completion of the road project, stating that the contractor would be held accountable for adherence to timelines and costs. “In three months, we are back here to cut the ribbon and commission this road,” he affirmed, encouraging continued support for his administration and the contractors involved.

Engineering and Structural Details

**Arc. Uchenna Nwatu**, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Development and Implementation, provided insights into the engineering aspects of the road. The design includes:

– **Embarkment Construction**: To enhance road stability.
– **Hydraulic Structures**: Such as drains and culverts to manage water flow and prevent erosion.
– **Asphalted Shoulders and Carriageway**: The road will feature 1.5 meters of asphalted shoulders and a 7.3 meters wide carriageway, ensuring durability and quality.

Extended Road Development Plans

**Engr. Gerald Otiji**, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, announced plans to extend the road beyond **Orie Engine** to **Ebenebe** at the Anambra State border. This extension will include a spur through **Obinaofia Ndiagu to Ugwuoba**, contributing to a broader economic ring being developed in the state.

Community Support and Recognition

Local leaders, including **Hon. Nnoli Nnaji**, representing the **Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency**, praised the governor for his infrastructure initiatives, which are seen as vital for the socioeconomic prosperity of the region.
