FCTA Threatens Revocation of Certificates of Occupancy for Landowners in Abuja

By MUHAMMAD DANBABA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to prominent individuals and corporate organizations in Abuja, threatening to revoke their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) if outstanding payments are not settled within two weeks. This notice, directed at landowners in the upscale Maitama district, emphasizes the urgency of compliance to avoid losing property rights.

On Friday, the FCTA released a notice stating that allottees in Maitama II District must settle their unpaid bills for their Certificates of Occupancy. The notice, titled “Demand Notice for Payment of Right of Occupancy Bills,” affects a total of 3,273 landowners, who are urged to fulfill their financial obligations promptly.

The notice reads: “The Federal Capital Territory Administration, through the Federal Capital Development Authority, is carrying out infrastructural development in Maitama II (A10) District. All allottees who have not paid their bills for the Certificate of Occupancy are hereby advised to settle their bills in full within two (2) weeks from the date of this publication.”

The FCTA has made it clear that failure to pay all outstanding land bills, rents, fees, and charges within the specified grace period will lead to the withdrawal of the offers of Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) over the affected plots of land. This measure aims to facilitate ongoing infrastructural development in the area.

The list of impacted landowners includes several high-profile individuals, such as:

– Yusuf Buhari and Zahra Buhari, children of former President Muhammadu Buhari
– Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu
– Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen
– Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume
– Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
– Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki
– Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara

Additionally, former governors and serving lawmakers, including Dino Melaye, Stella Oduah, and Kabiru Marafa, are also on the list of those affected.

The FCTA’s decisive action underscores the importance of timely payments for Certificates of Occupancy, especially in light of ongoing infrastructural developments in Abuja. Landowners in Maitama are urged to take this notice seriously to avoid losing their property rights. As the deadline approaches, the FCTA remains committed to enforcing compliance to ensure the continued growth and development of the Federal Capital Territory.
