The Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri has achieved a historic milestone with the successful delivery of its first baby through In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

The announcement was made during the hospital’s annual rededication and Thanksgiving Service. This event, held yearly, provides an opportunity to celebrate the institution’s achievements and renew its commitment to quality healthcare.

A Dream Come True for Families
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Kingsley Achigbu, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that the hospital established its Assisted Reproductive Services unit a few years ago to address the challenges faced by couples struggling with infertility.

The baby boy, born on January 2, 2025, has been a source of joy for the hospital and the proud parents, marking a significant success for the facility’s IVF program. Achigbu described the achievement as a “dream come true,” following years of planning and development.

Building Expertise for the Future
Achigbu revealed that two consultants from the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department were trained in IVF procedures to ensure high-quality service delivery. He added that IVF has now become a regular feature at the hospital, offering hope to couples seeking to realize their dreams of parenthood.

Encouragement for Couples
The CMD encouraged couples to take advantage of the Assisted Reproductive Services available at the hospital, emphasizing that the facility is committed to supporting families in overcoming infertility challenges.

This milestone places the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri at the forefront of advanced reproductive healthcare in the region.
