Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has denied supporting Peter Obi, the Labor Party candidate. He proclaimed that this information is damaging and completely untrue.
Godwin Obaseki claimed in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, that the rumor is being spread by his opponents with ulterior objectives in order to mislead the public for their own personal gain.

The statement said, in part, “The news item in a section of the media indicating that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has received the endorsement of Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is entirely untrue and malicious. There was no such statement made by the governor.
“The tale is being spread by opponents with hidden agendas who want to mislead and misinform the public for their own gain.”
The governor’s assistant added, “Governor Obaseki has been at the forefront of the campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running partner, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, since the beginning of the electioneering season.
He continued, “Obaseki, as the PDP’s leader in Edo State, would use his enormous support network to assure the success of our party and its candidates in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
