Amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminialayi Fubara has strongly denied any links to militant groups allegedly threatening the federal government. The governor, who was suspended following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, expressed deep concern over attempts to associate him with criminal elements.

In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt, Governor Siminialayi Fubara emphasized that reports linking him to militant activities were entirely false and politically motivated. He condemned what he described as a deliberate campaign to tarnish his reputation amid the ongoing political turbulence in the state.

False Reports of Explosions and Militant Activities in Rivers State

Governor Siminialayi Fubara addressed the recent claims of attacks on oil and gas facilities, stating that the affected communities have already dismissed the allegations as baseless. He argued that these reports were being spread to mislead the public and damage his image.

The statement read:

“Virtually all the fake videos have been linked to alleged militant groups in the state, with the creators of such content trying very hard to connect them to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Already, the communities where these incidents are alleged to have occurred have reacted, dismissing any claims of explosions on oil and gas facilities in their domains. They have reassured that all critical government assets within their areas remain safe, secure, and fully operational.”

Governor Siminialayi Fubara further reiterated that he has never had any affiliations with militant groups, nor does he support any actions that would disrupt the peace and security of Rivers State or the Niger Delta region.

Governor Siminialayi Fubara Calls for Peace and Stability

Governor Siminialayi Fubara emphasized that his administration prioritizes peace and development, stating that he would never endorse any action that could destabilize the state or harm Nigeria’s economy.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the state or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or the safety and security of oil and gas facilities,” the statement read.

“The Governor has repeatedly made it clear at every public event that the peace of Rivers State is paramount to him, and he would pay any price to secure and sustain peace. It is only in an atmosphere of peace and security that governance and development can thrive.”

Governor Siminialayi Fubara Warns Against Attacks on Government Infrastructure

Amid the political unrest, Governor Siminialayi Fubara issued a stern warning against attacks on critical government infrastructure. He urged all individuals involved in spreading false reports and inciting violence to desist from such activities.

“Governor Siminialayi Fubara vehemently warns purveyors of violence and economic sabotage to steer clear of the state. Any attempt to use his name or capitalize on the present political crisis to foment trouble will not be tolerated,” the statement read.

The governor also called out bloggers and social media influencers for allegedly spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary panic in Rivers State.

“It is important to warn bloggers and social media hirelings to stop, forthwith, their campaign to create an atmosphere of tension, chaos, and anarchy in the state. Their fake reports and posts in the last couple of days have triggered enough wrong decisions that do not help the state move forward.”

Security Agencies Urged to Tackle Misinformation

Governor Siminialayi Fubara called on security agencies to take decisive action against those responsible for spreading false narratives. He urged law enforcement to ensure that misinformation does not escalate the ongoing political tension in Rivers State.

“Security agencies should take note of these fake videos designed to misinform the people and further paint the state in a bad light. They must take all necessary steps to contain this and bring those behind the misinformation to book.”

As the political crisis in Rivers State continues, the federal government and state authorities remain at odds over governance and security concerns. With the suspension of Governor Siminialayi Fubara and other key officials, the situation remains delicate, requiring careful handling to prevent further instability.
