Lawmaker, Commissioner Laud UNIOSUN V-C, Charge Students On Critical Thinking

Honourable Olatunde Olatunji (Chief Whip, Osun State House of Assembly) and the Honorable Commissioner for  Works and Transport, Engineer Remi Omowaye have lauded the Management of Osun State University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola for his exemplary leadership in the University.

He made these remarks while delivering a lecture at aTwo-Day training workshop for the student leaders of the university.

The training workshop themed, Setting an Agenda for a Laudable Future was organized by the University.

Olatunji in his lecture advised the students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and focus on their studies.

Honourable Olatunji Said: “We have had a lot of problem identifiers but no problem solvers. For you to be a good leader, you have to be a problem solver and must be able to see ahead of the people you are leading.

”The future of this World, Country, and the State are in your hands, don’t think you are too young to make an impact.

”Gone are the days of “Ever Militant Nigerian Students” Now I implore you to start working towards “Ever Brilliant, Ever Intelligent Nigerian Students.”

”Successful leaders are not the leaders that have all they need, operate in the environment they want but leaders that have the determination to succeed in any situation.”

Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of the workshop, Honorable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Remi Omowaye, also commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola for organizing the training workshop for the student leaders.

He, therefore,  promises to advise the Executive Governor of the state to do the same training workshop for the student leaders in all tertiary institutions in the state.

As one-time student leaders, Omowaye shared his experience as a student leader in the University. According to him, a student leader is a problem solver.

Omowaye said: “I was able to develop an application for the University that automates the admission process and they paid me.

”I, therefore advise you not to only focus on your study, but to also look around for problems in the society that you can solve.”

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola while declaring the programme opened at MicCom Golf and Resort, Ada, Osun State advised the student leaders to be positive leaders that are notable for their strength of character and integrity with varieties of qualities which can be developed with this type of workshops.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Courage Consultancy, Mrs Bola Ogunrinade also lends her voice to the student leaders by advising them to dream big, be prepared always, work hard, have a goal, fear God, be involved in improving communities and find time for exercise and relaxation.

Mrs Ogunrinade said: “Whilst at UNIOSUN, all your financial needs will most probably be met by your parents and guardians but when you graduate, you have to learn how to fend for yourself.

‘Your University degree is useless if it does not empower you to cope with the stress of daily living.

Dr. (Mrs.) Julianah Akindele (Sub – Dean, Ikire Campus) in a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the Student Affairs Unit, thanked the University for the opportunity given to the students to undergo the training and encourage the Management to do more.

The student leaders at the training were so thrilled and thankful to the Management of the University for the Wonderful and eye-opener training workshop and promise to keep the advice in their left hands to be able to use it in their day to day activities in the University and beyond.
