In Lagos State, a 35-year-old father named Temitayo Bamiro has been detained and charged with defiling his 13-year-old daughter through anal intercourse.
They live in Lagos’ Iba New Site neighbourhood of Ojo, where the incident took place.
He was accused of defiling a woman in front of the Ojo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State, which carries a sentence of up to life in prison if he is proved guilty.
According to the prosecution, Simon Uche, the defendant, Bamiro, committed the crime on January 7, 2023, and it was not the first time he had done so because Bamiro often violated his daughter’s anus without her permission.
In light of the defendant’s plea of not guilty, the prosecutor argued that the accused offence violated Lagos State criminal laws and requested that the court consult with the DPP.
The prosecutor was instructed to duplicate the file and transmit it to the DPP by the presiding magistrate, Mr. L.J.K. Layeni, who also ordered his remand in custody at the Badagry Town Correctional Centre until the conclusion of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was postponed until February 22, 2023, for mention while the DPP’s report, which will determine whether or not the matter is referred to the High Court over jurisdiction, is awaited.
