The Nigerian Government has commended the West African Examinations Council on its deployment of information technology (ICT) to ease examination-related operations in the African States.
Nigeria Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu made this accolade clear while delivering his speech at the ongoing WAEC 70th Annual Council Meeting in Abuja.
Adamu said: ” I am pleased that WAEC has continued to take advantage of developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
”I must congratulate the Council, particularly for the deployment of ICT to ease its examination-related operations, such as the electronic registration of candidates for both the School and Private Candidates Examinations, as well as the hosting of results and checkmating examination malpractice.
”I am aware that examination results are being released ahead of schedule and certificates are now being printed within 45 days of the release of results by the Council.”

The education minister while assuring WAEC of the Federal Government continues support equally, urged the Council to continue to embark on initiatives that will enhance the quality of its service delivery to its candidates and other stakeholders.
”I wish to assure the Council that the Federal Ministry of Education under the Buhari administration, will continue to support any initiatives embarked upon by the Council, which are aimed at improving its services and maintaining the quality and credibility of its examinations,” he said
According to him, the Buhari Administration is leaving no stone unturned in providing not only qualitative but affordable education to Nigerians.
He added, ”Consequently, efforts have been geared towards providing infrastructural facilities and teaching aids, within limited available resources, which will support teaching and learning.
”In order to create a more conducive and enabling learning environment, the present administration under the leadership of President Buhari has been recruiting qualified teachers and has been training and re-training them to keep them abreast of developments in the education sector.”
