The Abia State Command has reportedly arrested two suspected child traffickers at the popular Aba Park in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announces.
Barr. Nwannukwu Nnamdi while confirming the arrest said “the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from one of our undercover operatives posted to the busy popular Aba Motor Park who overhead a telephone conversation between the suspects and a supposed lady buyer in Umuahia for a deal to sale a day old baby girl in the sum of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira, only (N800, 000.00)
He said that the operatives, acting on the tip-off, were quickly mobilized to the location, leading to the arrest of the suspected child traffickers.
The suspects upon interrogation gave their names as, Michael Okeke (M) (37yrs) from Abueke Etiti, Ihite Uboma LGA, Imo State and Amarachi Uche (F) (35yrs) from Ubaji Amafor Village in Ugwunnagbo LGA, Abia State.
According to Nnamdi, preliminary investigations revealed that the baby girl was born on Sunday, 31st May 2020 in a “Baby Factory” located in Aba, Abia State while the arrested suspects are saddled with ” negotiating for buyers and general sales ” for the ” Baby Factory”. Furthermore, the baby was unduly exposed to harsh conditions without the necessary medical care such as BCG Vaccines for a newborn due to the urgent arrangement to sale her at the agreed sum.

The investigation further revealed that the arrested suspects have links with some notorious “Baby Factory “Operators/ Traffickers in the State who have been on the wanted list of the Command.
The State Commandant thereafter assured the good people of Abia State that his Men were on the trail of all the suspects linked to the ugly incident, stating that the command would utilize the useful statements volunteered by the suspects to apprehend the others currently at large and bring them to justice.
Finally, the NSCDC Boss said “it is also pertinent to inform you that in strict adherence to inter-agency synergy/ collaboration, the Command has officially handed over the child and suspects to officials of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Enugu Zonal Headquarters for prosecution.
“I equally use this medium to warn perpetrators of this dastardly act to desist from it or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.”
Earlier in an interview, the Command’s spokesman – Ndukwe Agu Egwu had told our reporter that “the Command through her Medical Unit liaised with the nearest Government Hospital in Aba for all the desired medical care.
“Again, the Welfare Unit of the Command also made adequate provisions for the immediate upkeep of the baby all in a bid to secure the life of the innocent child.”
