Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State has said that the State would pay the WAEC fees for Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) students across the local government of the state.
Thus on 17 March approved the payment of SSCE fees for 25,736 students in Ondo public schools.
He said the registration money should be paid directly to WAEC with the appropriate receipt.
The approval for the WAEC payment contains in a memo signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Technology, Mrs Lola Amuda dated March 17, 2021.
According to Akeredolu. the payment of the WAEC fees was in fulfilment of his promise to take the burden of paying such fees off parents to cushion the effect of hardship imposed by COVID-19.

Ondo Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said all the eligible students in public schools would benefit.
The memo reads: “The gesture by the State government as part of the determination of the Akeredolu led administration to bring joy and succour to parents in the State and alleviate the financial burden of parents in educating their children.
“Governor Akeredolu had during the first working day Prayer Meeting of the year with the State Public Service, made a pronouncement that the State would resume payment of WAEC Fees in all Public Secondary Schools in the State.
“This is a promise kept; and it’s not in any way, going to be politicised. It is in line with the commitment of the governor’s REDEEMED Agenda under which we have Educational Advancement and Human Development.”
