House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, yesterday directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and officials of some commercial banks to appear before it next Thursday to explain their roles in the collection of Stamp Duties.
The committee issued the summon after the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler and the Post Master-General of the Nigerian Postal Service, Bisi Adebuyi, appeared before it.
The duo appeared before the committee to explain the state of stamp duty collection from 2004 to 2015 and other periods.

Adebuyi told the committee that the NIPOST collected N43.364 billion as stamp duties from February 2016 to November 9, 2019 “domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
The chairman of the committee, Oluwole Oke, queried the lack of records on stamp duty collection from 2004 to 2015.
The Post Master-General thus responded, “To the best of my knowledge, Mr chairman, no collection.”
