Siemens Energy, a company in the energy sector, officially opened a digital engineering lab for University of Lagos students on Friday. The lab cost N70 million (UNILAG).
The Digital Engineering Laboratory has computer stations so that students can study, hang out, and recharge.
At the commissioning, the company’s managing director, Mr. Seun Suleiman, stated that the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to further education in Nigeria led to the provision of the facilities to the university.
One of our guiding principles is to advance education, and we think this is a great opportunity to show the government our commitment to CSR. As we attempt to train young engineers in the near future, we invested N70 million in this initiative.
“At Simens Energy, education, social issues, and the environment are our three guiding principles. Therefore, we cannot make a mistake in education since it will improve society, remove many people from the streets, and enable individuals to find jobs.
Suleiman revealed that the company had placed an order for softwares that would be used to instruct students in PLC programming as well as how to construct and simulate applications, adding that N20 million had been set aside for the softwares’ purchase.
The company’s dedication to enhancing technology education in Nigeria would expand across institutions, he added, stressing that UNILAG had been selected to spearhead the effort. “We have ordered new software to the tune of N20million, we have also paid for training,” he said.

“UNILAG is the center of commerce, and Lagos is a hub of business, therefore we thought that because Lagos is a center of excellence, the impact would be seen there first. We’re going to branch out,” he declared.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, vice chancellor of UNILAG, who led other academic staff to the commissioning, expressed gratitude to the company for the laboratory and promised that his students will make the most of it.
“Simens Energy is making a major investment in the University of Lagos. Our kids would use it for their beginnings, projects, and beginnings of enterprises. You can travel the world and observe how pupils improve their talents. They will be able to hone their innovative, entrepreneurial, and skill-building abilities here, as well as their knowledge in medical, science, and other fields.
