In one week, two students in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State seeking admission into the university have committed suicide.
The latest victims of suicide are Chinyere Opara living at Ota-Ona in Ikorodu and Ifeoluwa Adekanmi, residing at Elepe area in Ikorodu.
While Chinyere died in Calabar after checking the admission list of the University of Calabar, UNICAL and found her name missing, Ifeoluwa on her part died in the hospital after sitting for JAMB three times
Incidentally, the two girls took there lives by drinking the deadly substance called snipper.
Both Chinyere and Ifeoluwa drank the chemical substance when it was apparent they could not gain admission into the university. While Chinyere died on 10th January 2020, Ifeoluwa died on 9th January.
On the 10th of January, Chinyere 17, who could not gain admission to the university commit suicide.
Before Chinyere died she said: ”I am fed up because this year is the third time I have been sitting for the JAMB without a success.”
On her part, Ifeoluwa 19, who was the second child among four girls in the family of Mr. Adekanmi also drank a bottle of snipper on 9th January.
When she was in pain after taking the snipper, she told her father that she decided to commit suicide because her younger sister and her eldest sibling had gained admission.
The Cheer News investigation shows that Ifeoluwa who took the bottle of snipper around 8 pm, still cooked that night for the family. She, however, refused to eat from the meal with other members of the family before death came knocking.
According to her father, ”at 10 pm, Ifeoluwa sudden screaming drew my attention to where she was battling with stomach pain. ”What Ifeoluwa kept saying was Daddy forgive me, daddy forgives me.”
Ifeoluwa eventually disclosed to her father that she had to take a bottle of snipper when she could not get admission. On hearing, the father immediately took her to the hospital, but could not survive it. Ifeoluwa died.
The Cheer further discovered that before she commits suicide, she already wrote to her friends on one of the social media that she was traveling. The friends, however, did not decipher what she meant.
After this tragic incident that claimed the life of Ifeoluwa, two traders around her house at Ladegboye in Ikorodu said they saw Ifeoluwa that evening asking for snipper all around the streets. ”We never knew the snipper was meant for a suicide mission. ”Incidentally, we had run out of stock of the product, hence we could not sell for her.
”When it was apparent that she could not get from our store, she left,” one of the traders said.

Similarly, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Enugu, Miss Bolufemi Motunrayo, has reportedly taken her life. She was part of the 2019 Batch C deployed to Enugu State.
She was a serving corps member at Girls Secondary School, Ibagwa- Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Motunrayo, who hails from Gbede in Kogi State, was a graduate of Banking and Finance from the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, Kogi State.
Moturayo was said to have died after taking two bottles of snipper.
The circumstances leading to her committing suicide were still unknown as at the time of this report but she left a suicide note which reads:
“I did this because I see nothing worth living for in this world. “…Mummy, I love you. Mathew and John you guys should take care. “We will meet where we will depart no more. I love you guys.”
Enugu State Police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the report.
