The Military High Command stated on Thursday that thugs who intended to sabotage the just concluded 62nd Independence Day celebration were captured on October 1 by members of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army.
Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, Director of Defence Media Operations, said this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday. He added that the thugs congregated at Karshi Hill and nearby communities in the Federal Capital Territory before their intentions were foiled.
Danmadami claimed that 64 people were detained and that the army invaded the hill and the villages in response to an intelligence report regarding their preparations to sabotage the celebration. He added that the majority of the suspects, who are young people, were dressed in black and had nine locally made firearms on them.
According to the senior military official, on September 25 the forces also conducted a search on a known hideout of an illicit drug peddler along Koroduma-Asokoro Guzape in Abuja Municipal Area Council of the area and detained five suspected drug traffickers.

He claims that when the suspects were detained, they had 11 bags of what seemed to be cannabis sativa.
“In another development,” he continued, “33 alleged illegal miners were detained at a site of illicit mining in Gwagwalada Area Council. The Nigeria Police, FCT Command received custody of all detained suspects and will now take appropriate action.
Speaking on the release of the remaining 23 Abuja-Kaduna train victims, Danmadami said the victims were freed through non-kinetic methods carried out by the presidential committee. He added that the specifics of the victims’ release will be made public in due course.
