The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the silence of five governors who are reportedly in the camp of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is raising concerns.
Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Wike met on Sunday in Enugu, where they reportedly discussed the turmoil roiling the party.
Since Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was chosen as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the elections in 2023, the governors and some of their allies have been at odds with the party leadership.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation is being demanded by Wike and his group in order to equalize the party’s leadership posts, which they claim have historically favored the North. A southerner would then take Iyorchia Ayu’s place as party chairman.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader informed that the party is now anticipating the results of the work of the Board of Trustees (BoT) Reconciliation Committee, which is led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, the acting chairman.
If there are no last-minute adjustments, the BoT will meet with Wike today after having meetings with various governors, including Okowa and Atiku.

Senator Walid Jibrin, the recently-retired BoT chairman, has urged the party’s organs and all of its members to work together for unity, progress, and peace.
Jibrin, who resigned to allow for the reconciliation, stated in a statement that everyone’s priority should be the party’s success.
“I have been collaborating with all of the party’s organs. Until Atiku is elected president of Nigeria in 2023, I will continue to offer my considerable experience gained over this PDP.
He urged “every PDP member and every Nigerian to come out and vote for Atiku.”
