The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Tuesday fired seven senior police officers due to flagrant misbehavior.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) also approved the reductions of ten other officers’ rank.
The choices were made as the Commission’s fifteenth plenary meeting continued.
The meeting is scheduled to end on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
The Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) before the Commission were all discussed at the meeting, which was presided over by Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, acting chairman.
The PDMs, which had a total of 47, also dealt with certain appeals from police officers who had been fired.
Ikechukwu Ani, the commission’s spokesman, told reporters shortly after the meeting in Abuja that the sacked officers included 1 CSP, 1 SP, and 5 ASPs.
One SP was also retired for the benefit of the public, he continued. 1 CSP, 3 SPs, and 2 DSPs had their ranks changed by the Commission to SP, DSP, and ASP, respectively.
Four ASPs had their levels further lowered by the Commission to Inspectors.
10 senior police officers, including an ACP, a CSP, an SP, and two DSPs, received severe reprimands as punishment.

Additionally, five ASPs received severe reprimands as their punishment.
13 police received reprimands; 2 will get letters of caution, and 4 were cleared of any wrongdoing.
Justice Ogunbiyi was reported by Ani as stating that the Commission will going forward give Pending Disciplinary Matters the required attention so that those found guilty are punished right away and those found not guilty are free to continue with their career advancement.
Justice Ogunbiyi urged police officers to follow established procedures and refrain from enforcing their own laws.
She asserted that the Commission will keep working to maintain a professional Police Force that functions in accordance with the laws already in place and with global best practices.
