President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to implementing climate-smart agricultural practices as part of a broader strategy to enhance food security, reduce environmental impact, and lead sustainable development in Africa.
Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, Tinubu delivered a 12-minute address titled “Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa’s Global Energy Future.” He called for global cooperation in tackling climate change and achieving sustainable development, emphasizing Nigeria’s leadership role as Africa’s most populous nation and one of its largest economies.

1. Climate-Smart Agriculture and Energy Transition
- Nigeria is adopting modern agricultural techniques to mitigate climate change impacts and protect local communities.
- The government is diversifying energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2060.
- Investments include infrastructure for compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles (EVs) to promote cleaner energy alternatives.
2. Policy Initiatives
