Trump Announces Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to Lead New Government Efficiency Department

By DAYO ADESULU

Washington, D.C. — U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Elon Musk, the prominent tech entrepreneur and owner of X (formerly Twitter), will lead a newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk will be joined by entrepreneur and public policy advocate Vivek Ramaswamy in this effort, as Trump’s administration aims to streamline federal operations and reduce government waste.

The announcement, shared on Musk’s X handle, highlighted that DOGE would focus on dismantling bureaucracy, eliminating excessive regulations, reducing wasteful expenditures, and overhauling federal agencies. This bold restructuring initiative, according to Trump, is aimed at making the federal government more accountable and effective.

Transforming Federal Efficiency and Reducing Bureaucracy

“I am thrilled to announce that Elon Musk, together with American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency,” Trump said in his statement. “Together, they will cut through government bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, and address wasteful spending.”

Trump, who won the 2024 election over incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, highlighted that DOGE would operate in partnership with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

DOGE will “drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before,” Trump noted, drawing parallels to the ambitious goals of the World War II-era Manhattan Project.

A Mission to Save America’s Economy

Trump’s statement underscored the importance of efficiency in government spending, noting that Musk and Ramaswamy’s work will conclude by July 4, 2026—aligned with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. “Their work will be a gift to America, offering a leaner government as we commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary,” Trump added.

Musk, a vocal supporter of the Trump-Vance presidential ticket, also made headlines for his $75 million donation to a pro-Trump spending group during the election. Known for his ventures with Tesla, Starlink, and SpaceX, Musk is expected to bring his innovative approach to public administration.

Other Key Cabinet Appointments

The statement also listed Trump’s key cabinet picks, including:

  • Lee Zeldin – Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Mike Waltz – National Security Advisor
  • Susie Wiles – White House Chief of Staff
  • Tom Homan – Border Czar
  • Elise Stefanik – Ambassador to the United Nations
  • Stephen Miller – Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy

These appointments, particularly the DOGE initiative, signal Trump’s plan to pursue significant government reform as part of his “Save America” agenda, aimed at making government more accountable to its citizens.
