You Kill Our Member In Protest, Shiite Members Accuse Police

Members of Shiite, an Islamic group have accused the Nigeria Police Force of killing one of their members during a protest held in Sokoto State.

An eyewitness buttressed this claim in a video forwarded to the Channel Television which shows the scene of the clash between Shiite protesters and police officers.

In the video, teargas was shot into the air while some Shiite members throw stones in defence.

The Police, however, debunked the allegation of killing a Shiite member in the protest.  The Police insisted that their officers only dispersed members of the group with tear gas to restore normalcy in the Sokoto metropolis.

The state command’s spokesman Mohammed Sadiq told Channels Television that the police only put a stop to an attempt by the group to disrupt public peace along old airport road in Sokoto metropolis.

The police officers then called for calm adding that normalcy has since been restored.

They also urged members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without any fear as adequate security arrangements are in place to forestall any recurrence.
