PETROAN Partners with Dangote Refinery to Ensure Yuletide Fuel Supply

By DAYO ADESULU

Nigerians can look forward to a seamless travel experience this festive season as the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) assures steady fuel availability, thanks to strategic partnerships with Dangote Refinery and the NNPC Limited-owned Port Harcourt Refinery.

In a statement released on Friday, PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr. Joseph Obele, expressed confidence in the measures taken to avert fuel scarcity, particularly during the high-demand Yuletide period.

Strategic Fuel Supply Agreement in Place

Dr. Obele revealed that PETROAN has successfully negotiated a petrol supply agreement with the Dangote Refinery, which boasts a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. This agreement, coupled with contributions from the Port Harcourt refinery, ensures an uninterrupted flow of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) throughout the season.

“We are happy that Nigerians are going to travel effortlessly during this period of the year,” Obele stated, adding that PETROAN’s Distribution Technical Committee has been instrumental in planning and executing a zero-fuel scarcity strategy.

PETROAN and Dangote: A Strategic Collaboration

The announcement follows a strategic business meeting held on Monday, December 2, 2024, in Lagos, where PETROAN’s negotiation team, led by its National President, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, reached a landmark transactional deal with the Dangote Refinery.

According to PETROAN, the agreement includes:

  • Establishing a robust seller-buyer relationship.
  • Reserving a dedicated monthly petrol volume for PETROAN.
  • Agreeing on favorable payment modalities and competitive rates.

Dr. Gillis-Harry commended Mr. Devakumar V. G. Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Group and Managing Director of Dangote Refinery, for his proactive strategies to ensure petroleum products remain available to Nigerians during the festive period and beyond.

Port Harcourt Refinery Contribution

With the Port Harcourt refinery also expected to contribute to fuel supplies, the combined efforts of these major players signal a significant improvement in Nigeria’s capacity to meet local fuel demands.

What Nigerians Can Expect

The partnership between PETROAN and these refineries promises to:

  1. Prevent fuel scarcity during the high-demand festive season.
  2. Streamline fuel distribution nationwide.
  3. Provide Nigerians with uninterrupted access to premium motor spirit during travels.
