Plateau, Osun Get COVID-19 Vaccines In States

Plateau and Osun states have on Tuesday received their share in the less than four million COVID-19 vaccines which arrived in Nigeria on March 2.

Lagos State also received its share of the vaccine early on Tuesday, says Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

A statement by the Information Officer, Office of the Secretary to the state government, Jelili Tiamiyu, explained that the vaccine which was meant for Osun, Ondo, and the Ekiti States respectively arrived at Akure Airport Tuesday evening.

Tiamiyu: “Leading the state of Osun medical Team to receive the vaccine on behalf of the state government was the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Usamot, Special Adviser to Governor on Public Health, Pharmacist Siji Olamiju and the Chairman, Osun Primary Health Care Development Board, Hon Leke Ogunsola at exactly 07:11 pm today (Tuesday).

“Meanwhile, towards receiving the vaccines from the Federal Government, the state government of Osun under Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has made adequate preparation and assure that its Central Cooling Store is in a good state to receive the vaccines.

“The government also supplied each Local Government and Local Council Development Area with solar power Refrigerators to cool the vaccine at the required temperature. The government also trained over 300 personnel that will anchor the vaccination exercises at all nooks and crannies of the State.”

Meanwhile, Plateau has taken the delivery of 105,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.

Dr Nimkong Lar Ndam, the Commissioner for Health, who confirmed this to The Nation on Tuesday evening, said the vaccines arrived from Abuja through Yakubu Gowon airport.

Ndam explained the vaccines have been moved to the cool room for safekeeping.

He said that the next step was to move them to cool stores in the 17 Local Government Areas.
