9 Ghanaians Sentenced To 72 years In Prison For Smuggling 10,843 kg Of Marijuana Into Nigeria

The Nine Ghanaians who had been detained for trying to smuggle 10,843.95kg of marijuana into Nigeria across the sea were found guilty and given 72 years in prison on Friday, October 14th.
They were first detained by Civil Defence Corps members before being handed over to NDLEA for additional investigation and prosecution. Following the inquiry, they were charged with the offense listed under charge number FHC/L/292C/2021.
Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court, Lagos delivered his ruling in the case on Friday. After finding the Ghanaians guilty of conspiracy and cannabis peddling, Justice Aluko sentenced each of them to eight years in jail.
The Nine Ghanians are Victor Wuddah, Freeman Gazul, Adotete Joseph, Sottie Moses, Sottie Stephen, Christian Tette, Kanu Okonipa, Daniel Koyepti, and Kanu Natte are among the prisoners.
Meanwhile, in Akwa Ibom State, transnational trafficker Edet Osu James, 44, was unsuccessful in his attempt to export 2.4 kg of cocaine to Cameroon on Thursday, October 13 during an outward clearance of vessels departing from Oron for Cameroon. The cocaine was hidden in two large tins of powdered milk.
10,690 tramadol pills were seized in Imo State during stop-and-search operations on the Owerri-Onitsha road, and three suspects, Saadu Usman, Godwin Emeka, and Emeka Obijihe, were detained on Thursday, October 13 as part of follow-up investigations.

Emeka Obijihe was on court bail when he was detained once more last Thursday for trafficking 6.5kg of tramadol, according to Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesperson. “Interestingly, Emeka Obijihe was already standing trial for a similar offence for which he was caught on 9th May 2022,” Babafemi said.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive of the anti-narcotics agency, praised the officers and soldiers of the anti-narcotics agency’s commands for their work in reducing the supply and demand of drugs while admonishing them to keep up the good work.
