UNILAG’s Senate Meets On Campus Amid Tight Security

The University of Lagos, UNILAG Senate has resolved to meet at the Ade Ajayi Main auditorium to discuss the sudden removal of Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as Vice-Chancellor by the Governing Council in Abuja on Wednesday.

They could not use the usual Senate building owing to the presence of the police personnel around the premises. With the presence of the armed security personnel, nobody was allowed to enter the Senate building which houses primarily the vice-chancellor and other principal officers of the institution. Thus, visitors and members of staff without offices in the building were not allowed in.

The joint meeting is holding after the leadership of the unions had met separately.

TheCheer reported early today that Professor Theophilus Soyombo of the Faculty of Science was announced as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Oladejo Azeez.

Recall that the Council announced the removal of Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday in Abuja.

It was gathered that 12 members of the council were present at the meeting and seven voted for Ogundipe’s removal, four voted against it and one voted that he be placed on suspension.
